‘INS Vikrant Gave Sleepless Nights To Pakistan’: PM Modi During Diwali Address To Navy

In a spirited Diwali address to the Indian Navy, PM Modi praised the country’s growing maritime strength and the indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, calling it a symbol of national pride and a reminder of India’s expanding defence capabilities. Speaking to Navy personnel during his festive visit, the Prime Minister declared that INS Vikrant had given “sleepless nights” to Pakistan, underscoring its strategic importance and the confidence it brings to India’s defence forces.

A Symbol of Self-Reliance and Strength

PM Modi highlighted INS Vikrant as a shining example of India’s growing self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. The aircraft carrier, designed by the Indian Navy’s Directorate of Naval Design and built at Cochin Shipyard Limited, represents a milestone achievement — making India one of the few nations capable of building such a complex warship indigenously.

The Prime Minister noted that the commissioning of INS Vikrant in 2022 marked a defining moment in the country’s naval history, not only enhancing India’s defence readiness but also strengthening its position as a dominant maritime power in the Indian Ocean Region. “INS Vikrant is not just a warship; it’s a message to the world that India can design, build, and command the seas with its own strength,” he said.

Boosting Naval Capabilities

During his interaction with Navy officers and sailors, PM Modi praised their role in safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders and ensuring peace in the Indian Ocean. He emphasized that India’s naval expansion was crucial to national security and global stability. “In today’s changing world order, India’s Navy is not just a protector of our coastline — it is a force that ensures freedom of navigation, stability, and peace in international waters,” the Prime Minister remarked.

INS Vikrant, capable of operating 30 aircraft including MiG-29K fighter jets and advanced helicopters, provides the Navy with unmatched mobility and operational flexibility. Its deployment strengthens India’s deterrence capability and signals a clear strategic message to adversaries.

‘Pakistan Lost Sleep Over India’s Naval Prowess’

In a candid and assertive remark, PM Modi recalled how Pakistan was troubled by India’s growing naval dominance, particularly after the induction of INS Vikrant. Drawing parallels to the decisive role the Indian Navy played during the 1971 war, he said that the presence of such powerful vessels continues to keep adversaries alert and anxious.

“When India strengthens its Navy, it does not just protect its waters — it protects its pride. INS Vikrant gave sleepless nights to Pakistan because they know India’s strength lies in its courage and self-reliance,” PM Modi stated, eliciting applause from the personnel gathered for the celebration.

Celebrating Diwali with the Armed Forces

Continuing his long-standing tradition of celebrating Diwali with members of the armed forces, PM Modi chose to spend the festival with Navy personnel this year. The event was marked by warmth, camaraderie, and pride as the Prime Minister interacted with sailors, extended festive greetings, and acknowledged their sacrifices in serving the nation far from their families.

He lit diyas with the officers, conveying that the true spirit of Diwali lies in the courage and dedication of those who protect the country’s frontiers and waters. “For me, Diwali is incomplete without being among those who guard our nation. The light of their service illuminates the lives of 140 crore Indians,” he said.

India’s Growing Maritime Vision

PM Modi also reiterated the government’s vision for a strong and modern Navy, with continuous investment in indigenous shipbuilding, advanced weapon systems, and maritime infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of the Blue Economy, coastal security, and expanding India’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region through partnerships and cooperation.

“India is emerging as a global maritime power. Our future depends on our ability to protect our seas, our trade routes, and our people. The Indian Navy stands at the forefront of that mission,” he added.

A Message of Pride and Patriotism

As the celebrations concluded, PM Modi’s address left a powerful message of pride and confidence. His tribute to INS Vikrant and the Indian Navy reflected the growing sentiment of self-reliance, strength, and national unity.

“India is no longer dependent on others for its defence needs,” he affirmed. “INS Vikrant is not just steel and technology — it is a living example of the new India that designs its own destiny.”

Through his Diwali address, the Prime Minister not only honored the Navy’s contribution but also reignited the spirit of national pride, reminding the nation that India’s defenders, whether on land, air, or sea, remain its truest heroes.
