Nitish’s Bihar Poll Blitz: Jobs, Free Electricity Promises
In a significant move ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced that domestic consumers across the state will now receive up to 125 units of electricity free every month. The decision is being seen as a major relief for millions of households and a key welfare initiative timed with the upcoming polls.
Starting from August 1, 2025, the scheme will be implemented, with consumers receiving the benefits reflected in their July electricity bills. An estimated 1.67 crore families in both rural and urban Bihar stand to benefit from this announcement, drastically reducing their monthly electricity expenses.
Speaking at a press conference, Nitish Kumar emphasized the government’s commitment to public welfare and energy access. He noted that the decision is not only aimed at easing financial pressure on lower and middle-income families but also part of a broader plan to improve the state’s energy infrastructure.
In addition to the electricity waiver, the Chief Minister unveiled a renewable energy push. The government plans to install solar power systems on rooftops and public buildings, aiming to generate up to 10,000 megawatts of green energy over the next three years. Under the Kutir Jyoti Scheme, extremely poor families will receive solar installations completely free, while others will receive partial government assistance.
